The film was the official selection of the Berlin Festival in 2009.
Written and directed by Mitchell Lichtenstein, Happy Tears is an independent film, whose theme is a tragicomic family.
Wrapped in a surreal atmosphere to try to escape from the traditional, the film tells the story of Joe (Rip Torn), a parent diagnosed with a rare kind of dementia, and their two daughters lived by Demi Moore and Parker Posey.
The drama shows Jayne, a woman with delusions of grandeur who has just returned to his family in Wisconsin and must deal with and improve the relationship with her bitter sister (Laura) who feels abused and is tired of caring for a parent who suffers from a rare form of dementia. It’s the old story of the family in search of redemption through a sort of exorcism of the past imperfect.
Happy Tears was the official selection of the Berlin International Film Festival 2009 which was aired on February 11. The film opened in limited U.S. on February 19, 2010.
