Columbia Pictures announced in a official statement that Len Wiseman (“Live Free or Die Hard”) will direct the remake of “Total Recall”. The roadmap will be the responsibility of Kurt Wimmer, known by works like “Equilibrium,” “Law Abbiding Citizen,” “Salt,” among many others. The film is produced by Neal Moritz, known for the franchise “Fast and Furious” and for producing the television series “Prison Break”, he stressed that Wiseman’s choice resulted not only because they believed that Wiseman is the ideal choice for the project, but also by a desire to meet former producer: “I’ve been trying to work with Len for several years, and fortunately we managed to find a great project , we worship the same way. Len is awfully talented and we know that is the right director to reinvent Total Recall for a new generation of fans. ”
“Total Recall” was one of the most popular films in the 90s and was directed by Paul Verhoven and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone. The plot was inspired by the tale of Philip K. Dick “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale.” The film’s story was unfolding in 2084 and focused on Douglas Quaid, a construction worker who decides to use a memory implants, to simulate a trip to Mars, since his wife did not agree with a real journey. However, something unexpected happens, when Quaid starts to remember who he really was and facts hitherto unknown thought. Pursued by constant visions of Mars, Quaid decides to go to there to get answers about his past, being chased by Lori, he thought to be his wife. Arriving on Mars, Quaid joins a rebel group fighting against a corporate enterprise that seeks to dominate the planet and thus dominate the mineral on Earth. The rebels who are in the know about Mars’s past “Doug” Quaid and will help the unlikely hero to discover the true meaning of his visions. Douglas Quaid, thus becomes the only hope of victory for the locals.
Len Wiseman did not hide his satisfaction for being able to lead the project because “I was always fascinated by the story by Philip K. Dick, and I’m excited about the possibility of deepening the kind of world he evokes and the questions it poses. I love the idea that the mystery crucial that our character tries to solve is that of his own soul. ”
“Total Recall” does not have a premiere date set.
