‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1’ loses the lead.
In his third week of exhibition, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 is no longer leader of the North American box office. And there was no debut that knocked the wizard boy, but the animation Tangled, the new version of the classic story of Rapunzel, who had debuted in second place last week, made 21.5 million dollars and took the lead. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1, in turn, totaled 16.7 million, reaching 244 million only in the USA.
Like Tangled, three other films went up one position in the ranking. Burlesque, musical starring Cher and Christina Aguilera, jumped from fourth to third place with 6.1 million, the same amount collected by Unstoppable, action film that marks yet another partnership between Denzel Washington and Tony Scott. Next comes Love and Other Drugs, Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, with 5.7 million.
The debut single of the week appearing on the rankings, The Warrior’s Way, opened in ninth place with just over 3 million. The production, which mixes western and ninjas, tells the story of a murderer who is forced to hide in the Old American West after refusing an assignment. The Warrior’s Way is starring Korean star Jang Dong-Gun, Kate Bosworth, Geoffrey Rush and Danny Huston.
Is also worth mentioning two other debuts this week: Black Swan, Darren Aronofsky’s new film, and the I Love You Phillip Morris, production with Jim Carrey and Rodrigo Santoro. Both films premiered in a few movies, just to qualify for Oscar contention, and must appear in the Top Ten so gain a greater distribution.
